The Columbus Department of Public Health and healthcare providers across the community are preparing for the 2012 Health Expo. The Health Expo will be held on February 4th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Columbus Trade Center (801 Front Avenue). This is an annual event where people in the region can learn more about their health status by getting over 40 free health screenings.

World AIDS day is celebrated on December 1st each year and has become one of the most recognized international health days and is a key opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of getting tested, commemorate those who have passed on, and celebrate victories such as increased access to treatment and prevention services. Early HIV diagnosis is critical. HIV counseling and testing enables people who are concerned about their HIV status to take steps to protect their own health and that of their partners. It also helps those who test negative get the information they need to stay uninfected.

- LEAD SAFE COLUMBUS TO CONDUCT LEAD SCREENINGS IN A COLUMBUS NEIGHBORHOOD
On November 17, 2011, to heighten community awareness and promote lead safety and prevention, Lead Safe Columbus will be conducting door to door home lead screenings in a Columbus neighborhood.

- LEAD-FREE KIDS FOR A HEALTHY FUTURE NATIONAL LEAD POISONING PREVENTION WEEK
Nearly a quarter of a million children living in the United States have blood lead levels high enough to cause significant damage to their health, estimates the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), based on data from a national survey. If high blood lead levels are not detected early, children with such high levels of lead in their bodies can suffer from damage to the brain and nervous system. They can develop behavior and learning problems (such as hyperactivity), slowed growth, hearing problems, and aggressive patterns of behavior.
